Dark rooms are available on a first come, first served basis. However, please allow others to share the space if you plan to occupy the room for a long period of time. There are key points about using the processors below (especially the minimum size of the film going through the instrument). These items should be reviewed before using as they are here to clearly explain how to prevent damage to the instrument and subsequent outages (which can be frequent and expensive if the processors are not used properly). Training is free and recommended for new students.

If you are having any problems with the processors, please contact the Equipment Manager immediately. Do not attempt to troubleshoot issues.

Notes about usage

  1. Open water valve and drain water after use to prevent the growth of algae.
    • Remember to close the water valve before inserting films.
  2. Films 8”x10” or smaller should be inserted lengthwise.
    • The minimum length of film the processor can accept is 6 inches.
    • Shorter films get caught in the rollers.
  3. Film should be aligned with the side of the tray as a guide.
    • Putting film in the center of the tray can cause jams.
  4. Films may be inserted two at a time.
    • Line up one on each edge and make sure there is no overlap.
  5. Because the fluids in the developers are heated, condensation often forms on the inside of the loading tray.
    • Wipe away the condensation to avoid lines on your film.
    • The loading tray should be open when not in use.
  6. After 8 hours of inactivity, the processors shut off.

Startup Procedure

  1. If the Light is off, turn on the power (in the front, under the feed tray).
    • When the power is on, the “Run” lamp will be lit.
  2. Press the “Run” button. The tanks have to heat up before the “Ready” lamp comes on.
    • When both the “Ready” and “Run” lamps are on, the processor is ready for use.
    • It can take up to 30 minutes for the solutions to warm during cold months, but it will stop heating after 20 minutes.
  3. Repeat steps 1 & 2 if necessary.
