Zhuqing Mao

CDB Destination Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Cell and Developmental Biology, Vanderbilt Brain Institute, Center for Structural Biology

Zhuqing received his B.Sc. degree in Chemical Engineering from Hunan Normal University, Changsha; his M.Sc. degree in Organic Chemistry from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin; and his Ph.D. degree in Microbiology and Biochemistry from the University of Konstanz, Germany, in 2022. In 2023, he joined Duke University as a postdoctoral fellow, and in 2024, he joined Qiangjun’s lab at Vanderbilt University.

His previous work involved analyzing the biochemistry of phosphite oxidation in the energy metabolism of anaerobic bacteria and using C. elegans for studies of nerve cell regeneration and cell-specific gene expression.

In Qiangjun’s lab, Zhuqing is interested in the structure analysis of FezA and FezB proteins and their mechanisms of vesicle formation. Outside of research, he enjoys reading history and mystery novels, cooking, and traveling.
