VBI Instrument Core

The VBI Instrument Core is a Vanderbilt University research core facility.The Vanderbilt Brain Institute maintains this large and diverse set of instruments located throughout MRB3. Unless noted, all of our equipment is available for anyone to use as we strive to provide a collaborative environment to all of Vanderbilt’s community of researchers.

On January 7th 2014, CDB and the Vanderbilt Brain Institute announced a partnership between their core facilities. The goal is to support continued access to shared equipment for VBI and CDB investigators and to provide for long-term planning of future resource availability. If you do not see the equipment you need on the following VBI webpages, please use the link at the bottom right and search the CDB Equipment Resource website. As of August 1st 2014, the VBI Equipment Resource adopted a fee-per-use model for equipment in the core. Please click on an instrument’s link for further information about that device.

On August 1st 2015, the VBI Equipment Resource core adopted a “Manual Usage and Billing Verification” policy for FY16. This is a Per Occurrence administrative cost to cover the Core Manager’s labor. It will be applied to services such as the Autoclaves if the manager identifies the equipment has been used without logging and he/she has to review video footage to identify what lab used the service. It can also be applied to TriCarb users if he/she has to determine who leaves radioactive samples at the instrument indefinitely instead of properly disposing of them via their lab’s radioactive waste disposal.

Being a shared resource, please be considerate and leave all equipment clean and in good working order for the next person. If any problems arise, notify the Equipment Resource Manager. Please do not assume that someone has already reported the problem. This will ensure that all issues are addressed immediately and that there are no delays in equipment repairs. It is the goal of the VBI Equipment Resource to maintain all of its equipment to the highest of standards, ensuring excellent performance at all times.
