On Thursday October 28th, Ms. Harper’s 3rd grade class students at Ida B. Wells Elementary School were celebrated for their perfect attendance for nine consecutive weeks! Community Engagement Committee of the Association of Vanderbilt Black Faculty and Staff (AVBFS) member and RASR Lab team member Nekesa Oliver, surprised the 17 students with a pizza party! Pizza and beverages were donated by Slim and Husky’s.

This celebration was the kickoff to the Committee’s “Show Up and Show Out Attendance Challenge” where organizations partner with classroom teachers and students to promote classroom attendance. Each month the class with the most attendance points will receive a prize. The students and Ms. Harper were very grateful for all of the support that they received and the committee was honored to spend a few hours with them to celebrate a job well done!
