Results of two collaborative projects are published this week!

First, post-doc Alaina Willet collaborated with Gould Lab alumna Dawn Clifford to show that NDR kinase Sid2 phosphorylates anillin-like Mid1 to regulate its dynamic localization at the cortex. Sid2-mediated regulation of Mid1 is important for efficient cytokinesis. Read more here–>

The second manuscript reports the results of a collaboration between Gould lab alumnus Nathan McDonald and our S. pombe colleagues in the Jian-Qiu Wu lab. Together our labs showed how the cytokinetic F-BAR protein Rga7 binds its partner Rng10 for division site localization and thus proper cytokinesis. The defects that result from rga7 deletion can be rescued by Rng10-mediated tethering of the Rga7 C-terminus at the division site, indicating that the main function of the F-BAR domain is localizing the protein and even for that it requires its partner Rng10!
