The Gould Lab welcomes Dr. Sierra Cullati, who joins us after receiving her Ph.D. from Dartmouth University. We are excited to have Sierra in the lab, and we asked her a few questions to get to know her…
What are you most looking forward to doing/learning during your postdoc? Is there anything that you think will be particularly challenging and/or bothersome?
During my postdoc, I'm most looking forward to leveraging the tools available in pombe to learn more about mitotic signaling – I've done a lot of biochemistry, and some microscopy, but I'm excited to learn more about live cell imaging and to do some genetics. I love piecing together signaling pathways.
I think the most challenging thing will be the fact of being a postdoc. The expectations for productivity and independence are a little daunting, but the Gould lab seems like a really supportive environment that will help me be successful.
What are your goals for your postdoc and beyond?
My ultimate goal is to be a tenure-track faculty member at a medium to small-sized liberal arts college, where I can do a combination of research and undergraduate teaching.
What was (or will be) your first outing in Nashville?
My first outing in Nashville was Hattie B's hot chicken! And I love it. I'd also like to go see some of the waterfalls I hear are nearby.
