We are excited to welcome Dr. Marcin Wos to the Gould lab team. Marcin completed his Ph.D. training in Warsaw, Poland at the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology. We asked him a few questions to get to know him…..
What are you most looking forward to learning during your time as a postdoc in the Gould lab?
I am looking forward to learning new techniques in the Gould lab. My project is especially interesting to me because on one hand I will use knowledge that I already gained during my PhD program, but on the other hand I will learn the new topic of cell division and fascinating world of yeast. Learning something new always gives me a strong impression of the diversity and complexity of biological processes in the living cell.
What are your goals for your postdoc and beyond?
My goals for postdoctoral fellowship is of course to gain experience working in a new role of postdoctoral fellow. I will enjoy working on a talented team focused on answering the ultimate biological questions. I hope that in the future it will help me to create my own research group and light up fires of knowledge in new generations of young people.
What was (or will be) your first outing in Nashville?
My first outing in Nashville will be a long night walk around Nashville’s Downtown with my lovely wife and my camera. I always enjoy a nice view in great company.
You’ve only been here a short time, but have you noticed any differences between biomedical science research in Poland compared to the USA?
My first brief look at Vanderbilt showed me that in the United States everything is scaled-up. Of course in the positive meaning. I believe that such a big University and Medical School provides many more opportunities for collaborations, exchanging laboratory experience and boosting scientific careers.
