Ruby Teixeira
Ruby Teixeira is a first-year master’s student in Education Policy at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, where her research interests include early literacy, educational equity, cognitive processes that influence learning, and improving outcomes for multilingual learners. She serves as a Research Assistant in the Fuchs Research Group within the Barnes Lab in Vanderbilt’s Department of Special Education, working under the guidance of Educational Consultant Caitlin Craddock.
Ruby contributes to the First-Grade Working Memory (FGWM) Project, a grant-funded study examining the relationship between working memory and mathematical word-problem solving among low-performing first-grade students. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, summa cum laude, from East Tennessee State University, where her student teaching experiences in kindergarten and fourth grade developed her skills in delivering individualized literacy instruction, progress monitoring, implementing evidence-based practices, and supporting multilingual learners.
These classroom experiences inspired her goal of pursuing a career in education policy to advocate for English language learners and promote equitable, research-informed educational opportunities. Outside of academics, Ruby is a former Division I soccer student-athlete who enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle, needlepoint, and spending time with her family.
