BrittanyLee Martin, Ph.D.

Senior Research Associate

BrittanyLee Martin earned her Ph.D. in Special Education from Vanderbilt University in 2021, with a concentration in high-incidence disabilities and quantitative research methods. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education from Florida Gulf Coast University and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida State University.

Dr. Martin’s research focuses on the cognitive demands involved in learning mathematics. She examines how domain-general skills—such as working memory and reasoning—and domain-specific skills—such as calculation—interact to support mathematical
understanding. Her work also explores how these cognitive demands vary across learners and tasks, with the goal of informing instructional approaches that leverage students’ strengths while providing targeted support for areas of need.

Outside of her academic work, Dr. Martin enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, and caring for her extensive collection of houseplants. Although she is now based at Vanderbilt, she remains a dedicated Florida State fan—Go Noles!
