Adele Miller

Adele Miller is a first-year Master of Education candidate in Community Development and Action at Vanderbilt University. Her primary research interests center on supporting the growth of self-advocacy skills and community engagement for people with disabilities.

As a Research Assistant for the Barnes Lab, Adele currently contributes to the NSF-funded study on the effects of Combined Attention and Academic Intervention for Kindergarten Children with Significant Difficulties in Mathematics (AIM-K). She has developed a strong technical foundation in intensive intervention, the ROOTS curriculum, and the implementation of evidence-based instructional practices.

Before starting her Master’s, Adele earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she was named the College of Education’s 2026 Outstanding Undergraduate Student. Her long-term goal is to remove barriers and increase accessibility in community spaces, so people with disabilities are empowered to be active participants and leaders within them. Outside of her academic work, Adele serves as the Applicant and Placement Coordinator for Illini Service Dogs, which is a non-profit organization that trains and places mobility service dogs free of charge.
