Aarie Burris
Aarie Burris is a Master of Education candidate at Vanderbilt University, specializing in High Incidence Special Education. Her academic interests include early childhood education, special education, and evidence-based instructional practices that promote equitable learning opportunities and equip students with the practical skills needed to succeed in school and beyond.
As a Research Assistant for the Barnes Lab, Aarie currently supports a NSF-funded study on Attention Integrated with Mathematics in Kindergarten (AIM-K). In this role, she works with low-performing Kindergarten students, using intensive attention training alongside math intervention to determine if this combination leads to increased learning rather than the same math intervention on its own.
Aarie holds a B.A. from Oregon State University, where she joined the Phi Beta Kappa Society and developed a strong interest in translating research into practical strategies that support inclusive, effective instruction. Following several years as an elementary special education teacher, she plans to pursue a PhD to contribute to research that advances inclusive educational practices and improves outcomes for students with diverse learning, behavioral, and socio-emotional needs
