Post-Doc Position at Vanderbilt University: Biomechanics of Wearable Assistive Devices

The Biomechanics & Assistive Technology laboratory at Vanderbilt University is currently accepting applications for a post-doctoral researcher. The post-doc will contribute to multidisciplinary research projects at the intersection of human movement biomechanics and wearable assistive devices (exoskeletons and lower-limb prostheses).

Desired Qualifications: We are looking for a highly motivated candidate, with excellent technical and teamwork skills, strong written and verbal communication, and a track record of high quality publications. Candidates should hold a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Rehabilitation Engineering, Biomechanics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline. The post-doc will interact with clinical and engineering collaborators, mentor students, and work directly with Prof. Karl Zelik, who is committed to mentoring and facilitating career development, be it in academia or industry. The following skills are highly desirable: proficiency with human subject testing and biomechanical analysis (e.g., kinematics, kinetics, electromyography, muscle-tendon ultrasound), proficiency in mechanical design, experience in fabrication/prototyping of mechatronic systems, experience with wearable robotics and/or human factors design, proficiency with Matlab/Simulink, Visual3D, and/or Vicon Nexus.

To Apply: Please provide a (1) cover letter (<2 pages) briefly summarizing your research interests and relevant background, (2) CV, (3) PDFs of two recent publications, and (4) contact information for 3 references. Please direct emails and inquiries to Prof. Karl Zelik (karl.zelik@vanderbilt.edu). Applicants will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory performance. The expectation is for the successful candidate to remain for a minimum of 2 years.

Institutional Information: Vanderbilt University is a private, internationally recognized research university located in Nashville, Tennessee, which has a metro population of 1.8 million people. The School of Engineering is located adjacent to the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, creating a rich environment for interdisciplinary and translational research. Vanderbilt University is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply.
