Indrayani’s paper is accepted to Developmental Biology!
May. 13, 2020—Post-doc Indrayani had her manuscript “Dally-like protein sequesters multiple Wnt ligands in the Drosophila germarium” accepted to Developmental Biology. In this paper she looks at the role of Dally-like protein and its role in modulating different Wnts in the germarium of Drosophila. Previous studies have shown Dlp to promote long-range Wg signaling, but little was...
Aubrie Stricker joins the lab!
Apr. 15, 2020—IGP student Aubrie Stricker is joining the Page-McCaw Lab! Aubrie came to Vanderbilt from the University of Kansas, where she majored in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. As an undergrad, she worked in the laboratory of Dr. Erik Lundquist. Welcome to the lab Aubrie!
James White joins the lab and wins a spot on the SCRDB training grant!
Jun. 9, 2019—IGP student James White is joining the Page-McCaw lab. Previously James was an undergraduate and then a research assistant at the University of Michigan, working in the lab of Catherine Keegan. Welcome James!
Congratulations to Dr. Angela Howard on her thesis defense!
Mar. 6, 2019—On Friday March 1, 2019, Angela Howard presented her dissertation research, entitled “Homeostasis and Repair of Basement Membrane”. After a clear and interesting presentation to the public, she successfully defended her thesis behind closed doors. Her committee was composed of Dr. Alissa Weaver, Dr. Matt Tyska, Dr. Chin Chiang, and Dr. Gautam Bhave, and at...
Angela’s paper is accepted to J Cell Science.
Feb. 25, 2019—Angela Howard’s manuscript, “DSS-induced damage to basement membranes is repaired by matrix replacement and crosslinking”, was accepted to the Journal of Cell Science. In this study, she establishes a new method of damaging basement membrane, which can be used for analyzing how basement membrane is repaired. We got by with a little help from our friends...
James wins an AHA Fellowship!
Jan. 22, 2019—James won a 2-year American Heart Association predoctoral fellowship to support his work on calcium signaling in response to wounds. Way to go James!
Andrea is named a 2018 AAAS Fellow
Jan. 22, 2019— Vanderbilt announced that five of its faculty members were named 2018 Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Andrea was recognized “for distinguished contributions to the field of extracellular biology, particularly the functions of matrix metalloproteinases in Drosophila.”
New R01 to study wound healing
Sep. 25, 2018—Andrea and Shane Hutson (Vanderbilt Physics) were awarded a new R01 from NIGMS, entitled “Cellular Integration of Information in the Detection and Response to Epithelial Damage”.
Will publishes thesis work on basement membrane repair.
Aug. 25, 2018—Graduate student Will Ramos-Lewis had his his thesis work accepted for publication in Matrix Biology. “A scar-like lesion is apparent in basement membrane after wound repair in vivo,” analyzes how basement membrane is repaired after a mechanical injury. Strikingly, this repair is not perfect, as a visible scar remains even after the basement membrane has...
