We are developing next-generation wind turbines that are equipped with smart blades and embedded algorithms, which enable the turbine to adapt to changes in the wind and also monitor the structural health of the wind turbine to reduce the cost of maintenance.  This approach to designing and operating wind turbines using cyber-physical systems that combine the benefits of sensing with advances in onboard software for computing and control aim to reduce the cost of wind energy for the consumer.
