General Recommendations

1H (typical samples) Any spectrometer
1H (very dilute samples) 600 MHz [Marlin]
13C NMR The 600 MHz [Marlin] cryoprobe is ca. 4x more sensitive than all others
31P,29Si,11B NMR etc 400 MHz [Snook], 400 MHz [Perch], 400 MHz [MRBIV] or 500 MHz [Biomol]
(Note: 31P is less sensitive on 400 MHz [Snook])
19F NMR 400 MHz [Snook], 400 MHz [Perch], 400 MHz [MRBIV] or 500 MHz [Biomol]
(Note: 19F is slightly less sensitive on 400 MHz [Perch])

Summary of Capabilities by Spectrometer

400 MHz [Snook]

Current Probe 5 mm broadband 3-channel (HPX) probe
Unique Double decoupling experiments with 31P (e.g. 13C with 1H and 31P decoupling)
Best High abundance heteronuclei (31P, 19F, 29Si, 11B)
Routine 1H experiments, 1H-detected 2-dimensional experiments (e.g. COSY, HMBC etc)
Acceptable X-channel nuclei (13C, 31P, etc)

400 MHz [Perch]

Current Probe 5 mm broadband 3-channel (HFX) probe
Unique Double decoupling experiments with 19F (e.g. 13C with 1H and 19F decoupling)
Best High abundance heteronuclei (31P, 29Si, 11B)
Routine 1H experiments, 1H-detected 2-dimensional experiments (e.g. COSY, HMBC etc)
Acceptable 19F experiments, X-channel nuclei (13C, 31P, etc)

600 MHz [Marlin]

Current Probe 5 mm TCI (inverse) cryoprobe
Best 1-dimensional 1H and 1H-detected 2-dimensional experiments (e.g. COSY, HMBC etc)
Excellent 13C
Not Possible All nuclei other than 1H, 13C or 15N

400 MHz [MRBIV]

Current Probe 5 mm broadband (BBFO) probe
Best High abundance heteronuclei (31P, 19F, 29Si, 11B)
Acceptable 1H experiments, H-detected 2-dimensional experiments (e.g. COSY, HMBC etc), 13C NMR

500 MHz [Biomolec]

Current Probe 5 mm broadband (BBFO) probe
Best High abundance heteronuclei (31P, 19F, 29Si, 11B)
Acceptable 1H experiments, H-detected 2-dimensional experiments (e.g. COSY, HMBC etc), 13C NMR
Additional Can be used with tall NMR tubes
