Training Grant
Biochemical and Chemical Training in Cancer
This program is designed for pre- and postdoctoral training with a focus and title of Biochemical and Chemical Training for Cancer Research. The program brings together 21 preceptors whose research is centered on the structure/function relationships of molecules that have significance to the mechanisms of cancer. Included are faculty members with three overlapping areas of research interests, which when brought together synergize to form an outstanding Training Program. These include faculty with expertise directly related to cancer biology that intersects with biochemistry and DNA metabolism (i.e. ErbB receptors and ligands, leukemogenic transcription factors, cell cycle regulators, genomic surveillance mechanisms, growth inhibitors, radiation biology, tumor imaging, angiogenesis, apoptosis and chemical carcinogenesis) with a focus on specific molecules. The remaining faculty have specialized expertise in modern aspects of high-resolution structure analysis of proteins and chemical DNA adducts or the chemical synthesis of chemotherapeutics and their mechanism of action. These investigators employ X-ray diffraction, nuclear magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, and organic chemical synthesis.
