Research Description
My research interest focuses on interventions that improve local and systemic inflammation as they relate to the refinement of glycemic control. To this effect, my current project studies SGLT2 inhibitors, a medication that promotes the excretion of excess serum glucose by the kidney thereby promoting euglycemia. We aim to evaluate the improvements in immune cell tissue infiltration and glucose toxicity with SGLT2 inhibitors and determine the long-term protective effects of this class of medication in the face of inflammatory challenges such as obesity.
