Runeem Al-Abssi

Research Technician, Department of Biochemistry

Runeem earned her B.S. in Quantitative Biosciences and Engineering with a minor in Biomedical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Her research experience spans catalysis, biomaterials, and computational biology. At Mines, she worked in the McGuirk Lab developing sulfated zirconia catalysts for low-temperature polyolefin depolymerization. In the Krebs Lab, she engineered biopolymer systems to model the trabecular meshwork for the screening of glaucoma drugs. Most recently, she worked in the ZJYang Lab at Vanderbilt University, focusing on computational biomolecule discovery, enzyme modeling, and deep learning-guided protein design. Runeem joined the Brown Lab as a research assistant in August 2025 and aids lab members in their work.
