RASL’s project RAPID was featured in VUMC News this week! This initiative, supported by a $1.1 million National Science Foundation grant, involves Vanderbilt University and North Carolina State University researchers developing advanced wearable technology to anticipate problem behaviors in children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The project includes a specially designed shirt and wrist-worn sensors that monitor body movements, heart rate, and perspiration. By using AI to analyze these data points, the system aims to predict behavioral issues before they escalate, improving the safety and effectiveness of behavioral assessments and interventions. The study, which engages 20 participants and their caregivers, represents a collaborative effort between psychologists, engineers, and community therapists.
