In this Arabic tale, Princess Boudour, once separated from her husband, Qamar al-Zaman, dresses as a man and becomes a valiant knight in the service of a nearby kingdom. In compensation for her courage, she is given the king’s daughter, Hayat al-Noufous, as a wife, which provokes understandable concern about what might happen when her biological sex is inevitably discovered in the marriage bed. The day of the wedding is when it all begins…
