Shrimp & Oyster Innate Immunity

Based on our discovery that shrimp histones possess antimicrobial activity, we have characterized several shrimp histones and their role in innate immunity. In addition, a collaboration with Dr. Jerome LaPeyre has led us to characterize a number of oyster proteins that play a role in host defense. We are interested in identifying other proteins that play a role in invertebrate immunity and to use quantitative proteomics methods to identify mechanisms of defense.
