Tyler was born and raised in Orlando, Florida. He earned his B.S. in cell and molecular biology from the University of South Florida while studying marine natural products in the lab of Professor Bill Baker. Tyler then earned his Ph.D. in chemistry under the supervision of Professor Jeff Rudolf at the University of Florida. During his doctoral studies, he focused on natural product discovery, biosynthesis, and engineering. As a post doc in the Mitchell lab, he works on engineering novel RiPPs with therapeutic applications. Outside of lab, Tyler enjoys playing video games, watching movies, and cooking.
