Guthrie grew up in Columbia, MO. He attended Truman State University where he received bachelors degrees in Biochemistry and Philosophy. During his time in undergrad, Guthrie researched the mechanism of action of the molecular chaperone protein DBF in the lab of Dr. Cassidy Dobson, and studied post-war French thinkers under the direction of Dr. Natalie Alexander. At Illinois, Guthrie joined the Mitchell lab to investigate the engineering potential of lasso peptides. In his free time he enjoys reading, watching movies, and spending time with friends.
