Austin grew up in Philo, IL. He graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry from SIUE and assisted in research involving DNA aptamers for use as a biosensor and the semi-enzymatic synthesis of pseudouridine. In 2019, Austin was invited to be a Snyder Scholar at the University of Illinois in the Silverman lab. As a member of the Mitchell lab, Austin’s research currently involves the investigation of new RiPPs, and their possible antibiotic and medicinal use. In his free time, Austin continues to run, play Xbox, and watch sports.
