Doug is from Pittsburgh, PA. He obtained his B.S. in Chemistry in 2002 from Carnegie Mellon University. For his PhD, Doug worked with Michael Marletta at UC-Berkeley where his thesis centered on an oxidative post-translational modification of cysteine. In 2006, Doug began his postdoctoral study with Jack Dixon at UC-San Diego. His work focused on bioinformatic and structure-function studies of streptolysin S, a potent cytolytic toxin. Doug has been on the University of Illinois faculty since 2009. He is married, has two boys, a lazy cat (Tigger), and a hyperactive dog (Paco). Doug enjoys running and spending time with his family.
