Background:
Nina was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She earned her B.S. in Chemistry, along with a minor in Biology at James Madison University. Working with Dr. Yanjie Zhang, her undergraduate research focused on specific ion effects, studying fluorescent interactions of the Hofmeister Series with Coumarin and its derivatives.
Since joining the McLean lab in January of 2025, Nina has focused her research on using Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry (IM-MS) to study non-covalent copper-amino acid complexes and their potential in enantiomeric separations.
