Joshua L. Soto

Graduate Student, The McLean Group

University of South Carolina, SC – B.S. in Chemistry

Background:

Josh was born in Bryan, Texas but moved to Columbus, Georgia at a young age and spent the rest of his childhood there. He went to the University of South Carolina where he received his B.S. in Chemistry, along with a minor in Astronomy. He did his undergraduate research with Dr. Susan Richardson (past ASMS president) where he used GC-MS and LC-MS to look at environmental water contaminants, particularly PFAS. He also did undergraduate astronomy research with Dr. Varsha Kulkarni, where he tried to determine the chemical composition of interstellar dust grains.

Since joining the McLean lab, Josh’s current research efforts are geared toward using DESI-IM-MSI to study genetically modified microbial colonies.
