Research Assistant Professor, Biochemistry
I was born and raised in Massena, NY. I traveled south to attend the College of William and Mary in Virginia, receiving a B.S. (1990) and M.A. (1992) in chemistry. After leaving William and Mary, I worked as an analytical chemist for Shire Pharmaceuticals (formerly Pharmavene) in Rockville, MD and for the Cedra Corp. in Austin, TX. At Cedra, I spent most of my time developing LC-MS assays for small molecules in biological matrices.
I joined the Marnett Lab in February 2001, where I have continued my analytical work, developing assays for molecules of interest to the Marnett Lab. Specifically, I have worked on methods for various DNA adducts (i.e. – M 1 dG), cyclooxygenase products (prostaglandins and prostaglandin glycerol esters) and cyclooxygenase-2 substrates (arachidonic acid, 2-arachidonyl glycerol and anandamide). I have also worked out analytical methods for novel COX inhibitors developed by the Marnett Laboratory. Most assays take the form of HPLC with tandem mass spectrometric detection, although UV, PDA and light-scattering detection are also employed. Away from the lab, I enjoy golf, tennis, softball, reading and eating out.
