Kelley Durkin is a Research Assistant Professor of Teaching & Learning and Psychology & Human Development. In her work, she focuses on improving math instruction in pre-K through high school classrooms, understanding misconceptions, and evaluating educational programs. Throughout her research projects, she has used a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate how learning changes over time and how to best support mathematics teaching and learning. Her current LIVE-relevant collaborations include: 1) developing the DREME Math Observer app to support mathematics instructional coaching in the early grades, 2) annotating students’ math responses for potential misconceptions and conducting a data science challenge to develop algorithms that automatically detect misconceptions in the responses, 3) investigating the effects of self-regulated learning supports on students’ mathematics knowledge and motivation in a digital learning platform, MATHia, and 4) identifying and adaptively addressing misconceptions in Quantum Information Sciences with a VR application, QubitVR.
