Amy Booth is a Professor in Psychology and Human Development and her research focuses on early emerging variability in children’s cognitive skills and interests, particularly those related to linguistic and science literacy. One project conducted by a graduate student, Margaret Shavlik, explored the efficacy of interventions targeting early shared reading experiences and paved the way for the consideration of technology, and specifically large language models, for promoting early literacy. Although Amy is not an expert in AI herself, she has amassed significant experience navigating the process of translating empirical research into a practical tool that has the potential for commercialization. She looks forward to learning more about what colleagues are working on in ed tech and is happy to share her experiences with anyone interested in following a similar path.
