Prof. Dan (Linda) Lin

K-12 Outreach

Dr. Lin has been hosting Gencyber Security camp for K-12 teachers since 2015. This teacher camp is a part of the GenCyber program. It is sponsored by both National Science Foundation (NSF) and National Security Agency (NSA). There were 43 camps covering 16 states in 2015. We were honored to host the very first and only camp in Missouri in 2015 which turned out very successful. Since then, we have hosted the camp for 4 more times.

In each of our camp, we host about 20 teachers teaching K-12. The goal of our camp is to enhance cybersecurity awareness and assist professional development of K-12 teachers through: (1) Learning key concepts of cybersecurity, and (2) designing curriculum to train our next generation cybersecurity workforce starting as early as kindergarten.

Camp Features

  • Cybersecurity lectures by the co-director of I-Privacy laboratory at University of Missouri

  • Hands-on lab experiment and online security games

  • Programming robots and board games to have fun learning experience (face-to-face camp)

  • Introduction to cybersecurity career by government agents

  • Curriculum design ideas provided by past camp participants

  • Curriculum design competition

  • Award ceremony and closing banquet (face-to-face camp)

  • Each teacher will receive $1000 stipend, a chromebook, and a 30-hour professional development certificate endorsed by both NSA and NSF.
