Welcome Hannah and Alison, two undergraduate summer research students!
We are excited to welcome two Vanderbilt undergraduate students to the lab for the summer–HannahSofia Brown and Alison Zhong!
……
Tell us about yourself—where did you grow up? What are you studying at Vanderbilt?
Hannah: I am from Minneapolis, MN and am majoring in Neuroscience and triple minoring in Jewish Studies, Medicine, Health and Society, and Chemistry.
Alison: I moved from Boston to Brentwood, TN 10+ years ago. I'm studying Molecular and Cellular Biology at Vanderbilt!
Why did you choose to do research? What are some reasons you chose the Gould lab?
Hannah: I wanted to do research in Dr. Gould's lab after taking an introduction to Biology course that I loved after which I become really interested in cell biology.
Alison: I chose research because it actually puts into use a lot of the concepts we learn in class, and although there are difficulties in research, I've learned a lot from them. I chose the Gould lab because I was interested in the lab's area of interest and because the lab environment seemed friendly and nice!
Who is your favorite scientist?
Hannah: My favorite scientist is Rosalind Franklin.
Alison: One of my favorite scientists is Tesla, but maybe because he seems like an "underdog" compared to Edison (their history is interesting…). Tesla's work that led to the AC electric system and his ideas on the "self-acting engine" helped shape a large portion of future technology.
What is your favorite thing to do in Nashville?
Hannah: I love going to the Nashville Farmer's Market!
Alison: My favorite thing is eating at new restaurants and trying new, sporty activities!
