Paul Allen

Paul is a junior in the class of 2021 majoring in Neuroscience with a focus on pre-medicine. He is from Cookeville, TN and enjoys hiking, reading, and swimming.

Paul joined the lab in August 2019. He is working on structure-function studies of 139-loop in arrestin-1, one of the elements implicated in rhodopsin binding. He is making point mutants in this loop. Then mutant mRNA will be generated in the in vitro transcription, mutant proteins will be produced in cell-free translation. The binding of resulting mutants to light-activated phosphorylated rhodopsin will be compared to WT arrestin-1 in the direct binding assay.
